3 Joe Gibbs Cars vs. Harvick For Championship 4 At The Homestead-Miami Speedway

And then there were four. Following Sunday’s Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at the ISM Raceway in Phoenix, the Championship 4 in NASCAR’s premiere series is now set. We already knew that Martin Truex Jr. and Kevin Harvick would be advancing based off of their wins in the first two races of the Round of 8 in Martinsville and Texas respectively, but the other two spots have been taken.

Kyle Busch and Joey Logano entered Sunday’s race +22 and +20 in the standings respectively. Denny Hamlin (-20), Ryan Blaney (-23), Kyle Larson (-23) and Chase Elliott (-78) had some work to do to bump one of those two out.

In the end, Hamlin and Busch took the final two spots and will join Truex and Harvick at the Homestead-Miami Speedway next weekend for a shot at this year’s championship.

Hamlin, won Sunday’s Bluegreen Vacations 500 at the ISM Raceway while Busch finished second. It will mark three Joe Gibbs Racing cars vs. Harvick for the 2019 title in Homestead.

Busch, hasn’t won since June 2. The other three have each won four times since Busch’s last win.

Hamlin, is driving best out of anyone with two wins in four weeks to go along with five top five finishes in his last six starts on the season. But, he’s the only one of the four to have not one a championship before. That favors him as weird as that sounds.

Since this Championship 4’s inception, we’ve had a new champion each year. Hamlin, could be the sixth straight.

It’s a familiar championship four though. Busch, Truex and Harvick have been three of the drivers in each of the last three years. The driver battling them in each of the three have been Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano and now Hamlin.
