Driving for Kyle Busch Motorsports can obviously be a very big blessing. See, they’re aligned with Toyota as a development team and have some of the best equipment in the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series by virtue of that. Combined, they’ve won two Truck Series championships to go along with 73 overall races.
If you can make it with KBM, the path to success in NASCAR becomes easier. Just ask drivers like Bubba Wallace, Erik Jones, Christopher Bell and Noah Gragson. All started with KBM and all are either in NASCAR’s premiere series (Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series) or on their way as starring in the NASCAR XFINITY Series.
But, that success can also be a detriment too. See, if you don’t perform with KBM, it could also mark an early end to your NASCAR racing career too.
If you can’t win with one of the top teams in the series, who can you win with? Well, for a couple of their young drivers that are competing for them now, when you see the bossman Kyle Busch win in all five of his starts this season and you’re not contending yourself, the pressure is on.
Busch, made some stern comments about Todd Gilliland earlier this season. He thought that he needed to get up on the wheel more and finish better. In eight starts this season, Gilliland has just one top five finish.
Harrison Burton is in the same boat. He has just two top fives in his Truck.
That’s why Busch came back with another stern warning for the entire organization that they’re under performing in 2019. That’s actually me putting a nice way of saying it. Busch was a little more blunt.
But, he’s not wrong. If he can contend, then he knows the Truck isn’t the problem – it’s the ones behind the wheel that are. Plus, with so many development drivers coming up, Busch has replacements at the ready if needed.
The only drawback to the drivers are, is that they’re young. This is all new to them. They’re still teenagers. With KBM, you don’t have a lot of time to grow. It’s a perform now situation. If you can perform in a way of scoring top fives and 10’s, then you’re fine and can race for him as long as you need. But, if you’re not competing, then you don’t get many extra chances.
