Allgaier Narrowly Misses Indiana 250 Wins

INDIANAPOLIS – When Justin Allgaier pulled into victory lane at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway last September, he never dreamed that it would be the last time that he’d do so. See, Allgaier’s win in last year’s rain delayed event was his third in a five week span. Throw in the Las Vegas race a week later, Allgaier had seven top three finishes in eight races.

So, for him to roll into the famed 2.5-mile track riding a 32 race winless streak, well it was frustrating. Allgaier, has been shut out of victory lane this season and only had just nine top five finishes. Last year, he had 13 at this point.

But, here he was competing for the win in the end on Saturday afternoon. Allgaier, led 24 laps in his No. 7 Chevrolet and if not for a late race caution, he may have been the one kissing the bricks instead.

Allgaier, the defending race winner, led a trio of JR Motorsports cars to top-five finishes, with Noah Gragson charging to third in the closing laps and Jeb Burton matching his career-best finish in his fifth start of the season..

Three cautions in the final 14 laps doomed the chances of Allgaier, whose No. 7 Chevrolet was set up for long green-flag runs.

“Kyle’s great, especially on restarts,” said Allgaier, who earned his first top five since New Hampshire “That’s what sets him apart in the Cup Series and here in the Xfinity Series. Our Suave Men Camaro was on rails, especially on the long runs …

“You don’t realize what it means to you until you come that close to tasting those bricks again. We’ll go to Vegas (for the regular-season finale) next week, finish out the regular season strong and take this momentum into the playoffs.”

Allgaier, is starting to hit his stride. While he hasn’t won, he does have nine straight top 10 finishes heading into the regular season finale next week.
