Andretti Wants To Keep Momentum Going, But 1st Needs To Qualify Better Saturday To Do So

Things are finally starting to turn Marco Andretti’s way. The third generation driver brought his No. 98 Honda home sixth in the Sunday race at Belle Isle three weeks ago. Six days later, he charged from a last row starting spot to finish 10th at the Texas Motor Speedway. Now, it’s time to keep this momentum going this weekend at Road America.

See, Andretti sits 14th in the NTT IndyCar Series standings. He’s only 23 points out of 10th though, which is a goal Andretti would like to obtain soon.

But, in order to get there, he has to first start qualifying better.

Road America has a lot of passing zones, but it’s also tough to move your way through the field too. All three race winners since the series has returned to Elkhart Lake have come from the top five, two of which from the pole. All nine winners in 2019 have started in the top eight with seven in the top six.

So, if you really want to give yourself a shot at winning Sunday’s REV Group Grand Prix at Road America (12:30 p.m. ET/NBC/INDYCAR Radio Network) you better come from the top 4 Rows, likely the Firestone Fast Six.

Andretti, knows that.

“We need to build on these top-10s we’ve collected the past couple races,” said Andretti. “Road America is one of my favorite permanent road courses. There are lots of opportunities to pass, but I need to qualify better than we have been to capitalize and walk away with a good result.”

Four of the last five races have seen Andretti start 18th or worse. If he wants to keep his top 10 streak going, qualifying on Saturday will be the key to his success.
