Askew Sweeps Indy Lights Weekend In COTA With Dominating Wins

AUSTIN, TX – Oliver Askew leaves the Circuits of the Americas feeling really good about his chances to win the 2019 Indy Lights championship. The Andretti Autosport driver led 35 of the 40 possible laps run over a span of two days en route to two dominating victories in his No. 28 entry.

Askew, started from the pole and led all 20 laps on Saturday in reaching victory lane for the first time of his Indy Lights career. On Sunday, he started on the pole again but this time led 15 of the 20 laps en route to a weekend sweep.

Askew’s Andretti teammate Robert Megennis passed him on the opening lap and would lead the first five circuits of Sunday’s race. But, Askew quickly passed him back on Lap 5 and never looked back as he takes over the points lead heading into next race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway during the Month of May.

On Saturday, Askew topped second place finisher Rinus VeeKay by 24+ seconds. On Sunday, he defeated second place finisher Megennis by 2.2256-seconds. The only reason it was even that close was because of a caution with five laps to go for Zachary Claman DeMelo in Turn 16. He’d finish in last (10th) as a result of getting off course.

Rookie David Malukas earned his third top four finish in four tries to start 2019 off, with a third place finish in his No. 79 entry. He came all the way from the 10th starting spot at that.

VeeKay and Julien Falchero rounded out the top five in Sunday’s race No. 2.
