INDIANAPOLIS — The 2020 Chili Bowl is going to look a lot different in terms of the driver lineup compared to the years past. I mean, most of the top drivers have all changed rides.
Keith Kunz Motorsports has won five straight Chili Bowl’s but Kyle Larson, Christopher Bell and Logan Seavey will be racing for new teams next month. Larson, started his own team while Bell joins Tucker-Boat Motorsports. Seavey, joins Swindell.
On Saturday, KKM announced that 17 year old sensation Zeb Wise will replace Bell in the No. 71 Toyota. Wise, will race full time in Sprint Car competition as he left Clauson-Marshall Racing.
CMR also lost Chris Windom and Rookie of the Year Andrew Layser. Both of those drivers will race for TBM with Bell.
Just look at those moves, most of which being announced in the last three days.
Clauson-Marshall finished 1-2-3 in this past year’s BC 39 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Now, two of those three drivers will be racing elsewhere in 2020. KKM saw Rico Abreu win the 2015 and 2016 Chili Bowl while Bell has won the three since. Bell, is gone from them.
Factor in Byran Clauson winning in 2014 and the Swindell’s domination prior, and you get the biggest teams in the sport all changing up drivers for 2020. That’s the biggest story of the offseason in USAC terms thus far.
