Sebastien Bourdais’ weekend just got a whole lot busier. The Dale Coyne Racing driver will pull double duty at this weekend’s action in Long Beach, as the Frenchman will now also compete in Saturday’s IMSA’s WeatherTech Sportscar Championship race.
Chip Ganassi Racing’s Joey Hand is battling the flu which will keep him out of Saturday’s Bubba Burger Grand Prix (5 p.m. ET/NBCSN). In turn, Bourdais will be his replacement in the No. 166 Ford.
Bourdais will share the car with Dirk Muller in Saturday’s 100-minute race.
“Although we’re disappointed for Joey, we’re also fortunate to have someone like Sebastien who can step right in this weekend,” said Mark Rushbrook, global director, Ford Performance Motorsports via a statement. “We’re grateful Dale Coyne Racing will allow him to do double duty with the IndyCar race this weekend. Seb already has so many miles in the Ford GT, and knows the team and crew so well, that it’s the perfect solution.”
Bourdais has raced this car in the endurance races, so this is nothing new to him.
