Alex Bowman isn’t backing down from his comments made about Austin Dillon following last weekend’s Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at the Richmond (VA) Raceway. See, Bowman and Dillon made contract during the Federated Auto Parts 400 last Saturday night. Dillon’s crew chief Danny Stockman and his grandfather who also happens to be his car owner both told Dillon to pay Bowman back.
He’d get into Bowman’s No. 88 Chevrolet in a form of retaliation too. That sparked Bowman to say he wanted “to shove that silver spoon he’s been fed on his whole life up his ass.”
After having six days to reflect on the incident, Bowman had the opportunity to retract on that comment in Richmond. Instead, he didn’t back down or mince words.
“I don’t think there is a relationship there,” Bowman said Friday from the Charlotte Motor Speedway. And what the comment was, you heard it. I said what I said.
“So, I was obviously frustrated with that situation but I think it hurt his day more than it hurt mine. We kind of ran where we were going to run anyway. It’s just frustrating. I got ran all the way to the inside wall down the front straightaway and then just turned. It is what it is. I’m not immediately worried about it. You typically don’t see him at these places anyway.”
The contract forced Bowman to a sub 20th place finish. He’s two points below the cutoff line heading into the final race of the opening round on the ROVAL on Sunday afternoon.
