Busch Eyeing 3 Peats This Weekend In Martinsville

Last weekend in Fontana, Kyle Busch tied Richard Petty for most NASCAR wins ever. Sunday’s Auto Club 400 saw Busch earn his 200th trip to victory lane in a NASCAR sanctioned points paying race. The triumph was also his second consecutive Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series victory of the season as well.

Now, Busch will try to earn another rare feat this weekend at the Martinsville (VA) Speedway – 3 peats, as in plural.

On top of two straight Cup Series wins, Busch also has won two consecutive Gander Outdoors NASCAR Truck Series races as well. He’s dominated their last two races in Atlanta in February and Las Vegas in early March. Can he win for a third straight race on Saturday?

The last time Busch raced a Truck in Martinsville, he won in 2016. He led 123 laps that day. His prior to start before that, he finished runner-up in each (2010, 2011). So far on the season, Busch has led 202 of the 375 laps turned in the Truck Series.

It’s safe to say he’s the favorite.

What about Sunday’s race?

Busch, has seven straight top five finishes in a Cup car on the .526-mile short track including two wins (2016, 2017). In fact, Busch has three top two finishes in his last four Martinsville starts in the Cup Series.

He led 352 laps in his win in the spring race of 2016. He followed that up with 274 more  laps led in the 2017 spring race. That led to 184 laps led in the fall race of that year followed by 24 and 100 laps led respectively in the two annual races a year ago.

On the Cup season, Busch has led 361 laps in the Cup Series, more than double the next best.

I wouldn’t be shocked to see him earn trips 201 and 202 of his career to victory lane this weekend and three peat in two different series’.
