Busch Still Has Indy 500 Plans, Admits Penske Was A Team He Talked To In The Past

INDIANAPOLIS – The big news of the day was Team Penske buying not just the Indianapolis Motor Speedway but the NTT IndyCar Series too. But, another big tidbit that is losing some headlines is that Kyle Busch is going to run in the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona with Vasser Sullivan Racing and their Lexus program.

On Monday, Busch spoke to members of the media and told Bob Pockrass and NBC Sports too that not only is IMSA part of his future plans as he wanted to run in LeMans too, but the Indianapolis 500 still remains a race he’d like to participate in.

“There’s a possibility of trying to work on something again,” Busch told Pockrass. “Just trying to get all the pieces to align and put it all together and make it all work. I thought I had it pretty close last time but didn’t have all the pieces together yet. We’ll try to figure that out to get it all lined up. Don’t know whether it’s going to be this year, next year or whatever, but would love to give it a shot.”

Vasser-Sullivan has an IndyCar team with Dale Coyne Racing. DCR always brings out an extra car. But, I don’t know how well Toyota will receive Busch racing for a rival in Honda in IndyCar. I also don’t know how they’d like him racing with Chevrolet either.

Busch, said on Monday that Team Penske was actually an option when he thought that he’d be racing in the ‘500 a few years ago.

“Him and I have spoken about it though,” Busch said. “He was one of the team owners that I was going to drive for if the opportunity presented itself.”
