We’ve seen an underdog win at Pocono before. Chris Buescher stole a win in this very race a few years ago. Now, we have another sleeper pick on the horizon – Matt DiBenedetto. Where he sits right now in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series standings, in order for DiBenedetto win make the playoffs, he has to win.
Maybe he can go off strategy and steal one in Sunday’s Gander RV 400 (3 p.m. ET/NBCSN/MRN/SiriusXM NASCAR Radio).
DiBenedetto has a fast car. He was 10th and third in his No. 95 Toyota respectively in the two Cup practices on Saturday. Also, Toyota has won the last four races at the Tricky Triangle too.
Furthermore, DiBenedetto has three top eight finishes in his last five starts on the season including a fifth place run last Sunday at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
Where Pocono can aid in strategy, DiBenedetto can play that strategy card and use a fast race car to steal a win on Sunday afternoon. That would really shake up the playoff standings for sure.
