BRISTOL, Tenn – It was a solid night of racing for the Chip Ganassi Racing duo at the Bristol (Tenn) Motor Speedway. Both Kyle Larson and Kurt Busch combined to win both stages of the Bass Pro Shops NRA Night race in Thunder Valley.
Both, also parlayed those into top 10 finishes when it was all said and done too.
Larson, finished sixth in his No. 42 Chevrolet while Busch brought his No. 1 Chevrolet home ninth.
For Larson, he thought that if he didn’t make contact going into this pit stall with one of Erik Jones’ tire carriers, then he had a shot to win in the end. But, the damage to his left front side of his car was done and he had to pit again to clear the sheet metal from the tire so it wouldn’t go down.
“If we didn’t have to pit there we could have had a shot,” said Larson. “I was so loose at the end there.”
Larson, though credits his sixth place run as a good point to keep this momentum going. This was his fourth straight top eight finish on the season and fifth in the last six weeks.
“All in all a really good day,” Larson continued “A really solid points day. Hopefully we can get to 10th (in the standings) at least and get a playoff point when the playoffs get started. The Chevy was good but just not good enough early in the run. I felt like we’ve been quietly been building momentum and speed. We just have to keep it going the next couple of weeks going into the playoffs.”
For Busch, it was his second top 10 result in the last three weeks. He went with strategy to get the stage win at the end of the second stage as they didn’t pit when the leaders did. It was also his fourth top 10 finish in his last five Bristol starts as well.
