Colton Herta stole the headlines in the NTT IndyCar Series test this week at the Circuit of the Americas. He ended the four sessions on top of the speed charts in three of the four sessions. In fact, he was – 1st, 1st, 1st and 2nd.
Alexander Rossi was also strong too. He was ninth, seventh, second and first respectively.
But, the next best behind them had to be the Chip Ganassi Racing duo of Scott Dixon and Felix Rosenqvist. No one is really talking about them and here they are right there near the top.
Rosenqvist, has barely been in an IndyCar before. In fact, the only seat time he’s had was in test sessions. While this was another test, he was fast.
The Swedish rookie was as good as advertised. He was 12th, fourth, eighth and fourth respectively in his No. 10 Honda in the four sessions.
On Monday’s media day, the common driver named as a breakout star was Rosenqvist. It just goes to show you the respect that his peers have for him already. His teammate of Dixon says that Rosenqvist could easily have a similar rookie year to what Robert Wickens has in 2018, if not better.
Speaking of Dixon, he was quiet but fast like usual too. The defending series champion turned in the seventh, fifth, fourth and sixth fastest times respectively.
That’s a strong sign of things to come, especially when he says that he struggled with a setup. What happens when they get to tracks that he’s been to before?
CGR could once again be in for a banner year.
