We have a second open seat for the 2020 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series is as many days as Matt DiBenedetto confirmed on Thursday morning that he won’t be returning to Leavine Family Racing for next year. DiBenedetto, was informed by the team that they’ll have to go in a different direction for 2020 as all signs point to either Erik Jones or Christopher Bell ending up in the No. 95 Toyota next year instead.
It’s unfortunate for DiBenedetto who will now have to drive for a third different team in as many years. The California native decided to bet on himself last year when he left GoFas Racing without a contract with any team for 2019.
When Kasey Kahne decided to step away, DiBenedetto became the obvious fit. He’s done a great job for them too in making them a contender for the first time in the teams history. DiBenedetto has four top eight finishes since the end of June. The team had three total in the seven years prior.
2020 will be the fourth straight year that the No. 95 had a different full time driver. In 2017 it was Michael McDowell. In 2018 it was Kahne and Regan Smith. This year it was DiBenedetto. Next year it appears that it will be either Bell or Jones.
