BRISTOL, Tenn – We’ve talked about this a lot, but Chase Elliott just has a knack for getting the most out of his race cars during the second half of seasons. That is proving to be true again this year.
Elliott, won the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at the Talladega Superspeedway in the last weekend of April and used that to go on a run of five consecutive top five finishes. Unfortunately, that streak ended with a new streak of his own – seven straight sub 10th place finishes.
Then, he won again in Watkins Glen and now he’s back on another good streak – three straight top 10 finishes again.
Elliott, finished ninth in last weekend’s race at the Michigan International Speedway and he backed that up with a fifth place run in Saturday night’s Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race at the Bristol (Tenn) Motor Speedway.
It was his second straight top five in the night race in Thunder Valley as he led over 100 laps in last year’s race and 33 more on Saturday. But, the speed Elliott said just wasn’t quite there though. He credited his pit crew for giving him another top five finish.
“I thought we were just off a little bit all night and even all weekend,” said Elliott. “I thought we were really close we just never got over the hill. We gained spots on pit road every time we came and more than one spot. I ended up in the top on every restart. You can’t ask for anything better as a driver.”
