Elliott Wins Go Bowling At The Glen Pole, Hendrick Sweeps Front Row

Chase Elliott is ready to end his frustrating seven week stretch in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series which has seen him fail to finish in the top 10 since a remarkable five race string of top five finishes. He headed to this weekend’s race at the Watkins Glen International as the defending race winner and hoped he could get some much needed momentum back.

After Saturday’s on track action, I’d say the momentum is very much trending in the right direction.

Elliott, was fourth and first respectively in practice on Saturday afternoon and followed that up with landing on the pole for Sunday’s Go Bowling at the Glen (3 p.m. ET/NBCSN/MRN/SiriusXM NASCAR Radio).

Elliott, circled the track with a speed of 127.297 mph in his No. 9 Chevrolet in earning his seventh career Busch Pole Award and third of the season. It was his first on a road course though.

His teammate William Byron gave it an all Hendrick Motorsports front row lockout as he qualified with a speed of 127.144 mph in his No. 24 Chevrolet. He will start second.

Row 2 is an all Joe Gibbs Racing row with Kyle Busch (126.976 mph) and Martin Truex Jr. (126.861 mph) starting third and fourth respectively. Kyle Larson (126.779 mph) rounded out the top five. Larson’s Chip Ganassi Racing teammate of Kurt Busch rolls off seventh while a third JGR car in Denny Hamlin starts sixth in his No. 11 Toyota. Even Jimmie Johnson starts seventh in his No. 48 Chevrolet.

That’s three JGR cars, three HMS cars and both CGR cars in the top eight of the starting lineup.
