Gateway Gets New Truck Series Date, Which Kicks Off Playoffs

Gateway Motorsports Park has quickly become one of the best tracks in America. They host NHRA, IndyCar and NASCAR. The IndyCar race has run to a near capacity crowd in its first two years back on the schedule. They have a deal to remain as a host to America’s premiere open wheel series through 2021.

Now, Gateway got a new and improved date for the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series.

The Truck Series which returned to the 1.25-mile oval in 2014 will move from June to Friday, August 21 in 2020. The reason the move is so big is that it will begin the 2020 playoffs for the series. It also becomes the finale for the NASCAR Triple Truck Challenge too.

“We believe this new day and date for our NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series event in 2020 will be popular with our fans,” said Chris Blair, Gateway Motorsports Park Executive Vice President and General Manager. “Traditionally there have been some other great events in our area on that weekend and having a thrilling show under the lights on a Friday night is the perfect way to launch the action. This is the first of many exciting changes we will be unveiling in the days and weeks to come as it pertains to the future of racing in the St. Louis-Metro East region.

“We were honored to be selected as the host site for the finale of the NASCAR Triple Truck Challenge in 2019.  Now being selected as the kick-off for the playoffs illustrates that NASCAR believes in what we are doing as a facility and recognizes the loyal fans of the St. Louis region who share a great enthusiasm for the sport.”

Gateway is being rewarded for all their hard efforts to grow the tracks presence. They’re one of the favorite tracks for fans to visit.

Plus, if you notice the date and think that if IndyCar returns to their normal weekend in 2020, then you’d have a Truck Series and IndyCar doubleheader weekend.

That’s huge.

It wouldn’t be the first time the two series have shared tracks. They annual race in June in Texas with each other.

Granted, the 2020 date isn’t confirmed yet on the IndyCar side, there’s hopes this can work out because it would make that weekend even bigger.
