GMS Racing Shuts Down NXS Program For 202

GMS Racing announced on Thursday that they will shut down their NASCAR XFINITY Series program effective immediately. The news isn’t surprising as rumors of this started earlier this past season.

The organization stared a part-time role in the series in for 13 races in 2016. They went full time the last three years with Spencer Gallagher, but Gallagher failed a drug test following his Talladega win in April 2018. He decided to step away from the sport after and the organization went with John Hunter Nemechek for 2019.

Nemechek, had a great season with six straight top eight finishes in the No. 23 Chevrolet to close out the year including seven of the final eight. Nemechek, ended up with 19 top 10’s in 33 starts last season.

But, the Truck Series team thrived yet again and put Brett Moffitt into the Championship 4. GMS realized that the Truck Series is their bread-and-butter and have in turn expanded their program in that series.

Moffitt and Sheldon Creed return to the Truck Series with GMS in 2020 while they also expand for two more full time trucks for Tyler Ankrum and Zane Smith. They’ll also have a fifth Truck on a part-time basis for Sam Mayer too.
