LEXINGTON, OH – Jack Harvey wanted a top 10 finish so badly for his Meyer Shank Racing team on Sunday. See, their goals were simple this year – qualify in the top 12 and finish in the top 10.
They’d do both this weekend at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
Harvey, started his No. 60 Honda ninth for Sunday’s Honda Indy 200 and would bring his car home 10th for his fourth top 10 finish this season in just eight starts this season. Heading into 2019, Harvey had no top 10’s during his first nine Indy Car starts. Eight races into 2019, he has four including one podium.
What makes this one more special is, this is MSR’s home track. Michael Shank has a large love for the 2.258-mile road course and if there’s any track outside of Indy that he wants to win at – it’s this one.
“It was a well-deserved top-10 finish,” said Harvey. “We ran between P8 and P12 all weekend, so we ended the race in that same realm. There is a bit of disappointment because we have been performing so well, so our expectations are rising. We all want to do a great job for AutoNation and SiriusXM and especially at Michael’s (Shank, team owner) home track. We know we can do better and while I was pushing hard – I made a mistake which let Graham (Rahal) get by. Overall, it was a very successful weekend for the Meyer Shank Racing crew.”
This was Harvey’s third 10th place finish of the season as you have to wonder if they ran a full year where he’d stack up. Hopefully, this team can come back and be on a full time basis in 2020 as they were the top SPM car this weekend.
