Harvick With Crash For 7th Time In Last 8 Superspeedway Starts

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla – Like Brad Keselowski, Kevin Harvick is sick of crashing on superspeedway race tracks. Unfortunately for both, they’ll have to wait until Talladega in October to attempt to finish a race on these tracks unscathed.

Harvick, got into the back of Keselowski on Lap 84 bringing out the fourth caution of Sunday’s rain delayed Coke Zero Sugar 400. While Harvick was involved in the incident, his car was able to continue on despite right side damage to his No. 4 Ford.

But, his race winning chances were now over. The speed wouldn’t be there to contend. He’d finish 31st, one lap down, in the second stage.

Harvick, would run there for most of the rest of the way including being involved in another crash on Lap 117. Luckily for him though, he crashed before the “Big One” seconds later.

See, Harvick’s tire blew and shot him up the banking in Turn 3. His car hit the SAFER barrier as a result. Last weekend in Chicagoland, Harvick led over 100 laps but was involved in a crash when he had another tire go down while contending for the win.

It was the final blow to ruin his day even further.

His car avoided larger damage though as a 17 car melee took place in Turn 1 a half a lap later. While we were under caution, lightning was in the area to bring out the red flag. While Harvick’s car sat on pit lane, his tire exploded again.

That’s just how his season has gone.

Harvick, was scored with a place finish in the 400 for his seventh straight sub 15th place finish at Daytona. His last seven finishes are – 39th, 22nd, 33rd, 31st, 19th, 26th and now 28th respectively.

Combine that with Talladega, Harvick has crashed in seven of his last nine superspeedway starts. On the season, the California native hasn’t scored a top five since Dover, some eight races ago.

This season is going downhill for Stewart-Haas Racing.
