Joey Logano hasn’t won a Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race since June – June 10 to be exact. That happened the week before Fathers Day weekend at the Michigan International Speedway. Its been a long 11 races since the defending Cup Series champion has last tasted victory.
Despite that and only having two top five finishes in the same time frame, Logano is confident heading into the 10 race postseason which kicks off this weekend at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
“Oh I love it,” said Logano on why his team is better when the pressure is on. “It brings the best out of me. A lot of people crack but I think for us, it brings the best out of this race team. I look forward to the playoffs every year because it’s the time that you learn the most about yourself. You grow the most. Pressure has kind of the ability to do that.”
Logano, has high hopes not just because he finished runner-up in last weekend’s race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, but he also won the spring trip to the 1.5-mile track that will host the opening race of the playoffs this weekend too. The Team Penske driver led 86 laps in Las Vegas back in March to earn his seventh straight top 10 finish there.
He’s lead at least five laps in each of those seven races to go along with a fourth place run in his championship winning year last year.
“Yeah we just need to execute,” said Logano. “We’ve got to have perfect days all the way through. It’s so hard to recover these days.”
