SPARTA, KY – JR Motorsports has been the top team in the NASCAR XFINITY Series over the last several years. While they are certainly among the ones to watch again over the second half of the year in 2019, they are just a step off in comparison to the “Big 3” too.
JRM has one victory this season while the “Big 3” has reached victory lane in 12 of the 17 races. The only other drivers to have won in 2019 are Kyle Busch (3), Ross Chastain (1) and Michael Annett (1).
Cole Custer led 88 of the 200 laps in Friday night’s Alsco 300 at the Kentucky Speedway in another dominating victory. It was his fifth of the season, three of which in the last six races.
Christopher Bell finished runner-up in his No. 20 Toyota while Tyler Reddick was third in his No. 2 Chevrolet.
1-2-3 finishes for the “Big 3.” They had also led 168 of the 200 laps too. Among the only five cars on the lead lap at the finish, they were three of them.
But, JRM saw all four cars cross the finish line in the top eight too though. They were just once again a step off.
Annett, finished fourth in his No. 1 Chevrolet for his fifth top five finish in 2019 and 12th of the season as well. Heading into this season, Annett had just two combined top five finishes in the series since 2013. His 88 laps led in 2019 are more than his previous seven combined season as well.
Rookie Noah Gragson finished sixth in his No. 9 Chevrolet for his sixth top six finish in his last seven starts on the year, four of which being sixth place runs at that.
Justin Allgaier was seventh in his No. 7 Chevrolet for his third top seven in the last five races of the year and sixth in the last nine races overall.
Finally, Ryan Truex came home eighth in his No. 8 Chevrolet in just his second start of the year. In his other race, Truex came home runner-up back in March in Phoenix.
With only nine races remaining before the playoffs, JRM looks like they’re in great shape. All three full time drivers are in the top seven of the standings and all over 200 points to the good.
