INDIANAPOLIS – Belardi Auto Racing announced another 2019 Indy Lights Series entry on Monday. The organization signed Lucas Kohl to drive the second of three cars for the upcoming season.
“I know that as a rookie it is going to be challenging, but with the experience that Belardi Auto Racing has I feel that they can help me to learn as much as possible as fast as possible,” Kohl said via a team statement.
Kohl, 20, spent the last three years in USF2000. The Brazilian, racked up four podiums and 11 top 10 finishes last year including a season best second place effort in July at Mid-Ohio.
He was able to join Belardi for the Chris Griffis test at Indy last fall which in that test, he opened the eyes of team owner Brian Belardi.
The 20-year-old Brazilian born driver had an impressive 2018 campaign racking up 11 top 10 finishes, 4 podium finishes and a highest finishing position of second at Mid-Ohio.
“We are very excited that Lucas has joined Belardi Auto Racing,” Belardi said on the release. “He is a very bright young man and has a great future in racing. The team and I are very pleased to have Lucas and can’t wait to see him shine this year.”
The team has already signed Zachary Claman DeMelo for one entry and still has a future announcement on who the third driver will be.
