INDIANAPOLIS – Felix Rosenqvist was involved in a frightening Lap 1 crash this past Sunday when his No. 10 Honda hit Takuma Sato when he slid back up the track in Turn 2 and sent Sato upside down and Rosenqivst up into the Turn 2 catchfencing at the Pocono Raceway. Luckily, the Swedish rookie escaped injury as he barely scrapped the fencing with his front end/under tray first and quickly came back down on the racing surface as a result.
Rosenqvist, was awake and alert but transported to a local Pennsylvania hospital for further evaluation. He was later released from the hospital on Sunday evening but had to be checked on Monday to see whether he could return to his cockpit this weekend.
Chip Ganassi Racing was given the green light for their driver to return as soon as this weekend in Gateway as not only will Rosenqvist be able to race, he gets a new sponsor too.
CGR unveiled on Tuesday that Monster Energy will be Rosenqvist’s sponsor for Saturday night’s Bommarito Automotive Group 500 (8 p.m. ET/NBCSN/INDYCAR Radio Network).
Rosenqvist, will look to close out the Rookie of the Year championship as he currently leads Santino Ferrucci by 13 points in that battle. Colton Herta is third, 55 points back.
