Felix Rosenqvist’s sixth place finish in the last NTT IndyCar Series race back on June 23 in Road America moved him back to the lead in the Rookie standings. Now, he hopes to keep it that way for the rest of the season.
With what races are coming up, Rosenqvist has either actually raced on them before in Indy Lights or has comfort for them in either testing on those circuits or them being in his comfort zone.
It’s no secret, Rosenqvist has struggled to adapt to ovals. He crashed in Indy 500 practice as well as in the race too. He wasn’t very strong in the second oval race of his rookie season in 2019 at Texas. While there are still three ovals left, it’s the non ovals that has the Sweden native excited.
Two of the next three races, Rosenqvist has experience on. He’d race at Toronto before. He’s also tested in the race in two weeks at Mid-Ohio. But, lets go back to Toronto and his history on the Exhibition Place street circuit.
Rosenqvist, has made two starts there. He did so in one weekend back in 2016 in Indy Lights. He won both races too. That gives him high hopes to score a ton of points in Sunday’s Honda Indy Toronto (3 p.m. ET/NBCSN/INDYCAR Radio Network).
“Toronto is a good opportunity for us to score some significant points and have a go at another strong result,” Rosenqvist said of this weekend’s race. “I’ve been there before, winning both races on my final weekend in Indy Lights in 2016, and Toronto is also one of my favorite cities in general.
“It’s always slightly easier returning to a track you already know.”
Rosenqvist notes that the street course races have been his strongest types of tracks in 2019. He finished fourth in the season opener in St. Pete, 10th in Long Beach, fourth in Belle Isle 1 and 16th in Belle Isle 2. That gives him even higher hopes for this weekend too.

Looking back at the first half of the season, it seems that street tracks have been probably our biggest strength pace-wise. I’ll head into the weekend with high hopes in the NTT DATA Car but also with realistic expectations.”
