Sauter Returns To ThorSport For 2019 Season, Snider Moves To Part Time Role

ThorSport Racing announced their driver lineup on Fox Sport’s RaceHub on Tuesday night. Part of the driver announcement is that former ThorSport driver Johnny Sauter will rejoin the team.

“I’m returning home,” Sauter said on the FS1 broadcast. “I couldn’t be more proud of going back there and running for a championship.”

Sauter, will have his longtime crew chief Joe Shear Jr. coming over with him too. The Wisconsin native raced seven years (2009 through 2015) for the organization. He reached victory lane 10 times in that seven year span.

The last three years, he competed with GMS Racing. Those were the finest years of his Truck Series career. He won the championship in 2016, finished runner-up in 2017 and was fourth this past year.

He won 13 times in his three years with GMS but was surprisingly not retained by the team heading in 2019. The team replaced him with defending series champion Brett Moffitt.

Speaking of last year, the defending Truck Series Rookie of the Year in Myatt Snider returns to the team but will only race in a part time role. That’s a little bit surprising seeing how strong he was at the end of the season.

Matt Crafton, Ben Rhodes and Grant Enfinger return in full season roles like Sauter. .
