Now that David Ragan has decided that the 2019 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season will be his last, that leaves an open seat with Front Row Motorsports for next season. The question now is, whom will it go to?
FRM has three charters and three cars and intends to run all three in 2020. It’s assumed that Michael McDowell and Matt Tifft will be returning with the organization. So, will will join them?
This makes the most sense right? DiBenedetto, is likely out with Leavine Family Racing at seasons end as he had just a one-year deal. All signs are pointing to LFR getting more support from Toyota/Joe Gibbs Racing and having either Erik Jones or Christopher Bell pilot that car.
DiBenedetto, would be a free agent and FRM would be a nice destination for him.
How about this one? I’m not saying Bowyer would take the seat, but it’s known that he’s a free agent at seasons end too. There are reports that Bowyer could be back with Stewart-Haas Racing in 2020, but if not, maybe he ends up here.
Same as above here. He’s a potential free agent at the end of the year and if he or Bowyer don’t make the playoffs, they could be on the chopping block. Without many top rides available for 2020, this may be a place he winds up.
Same as above too. Almirola is also a free agent at the end of the 2019 season. No word yet on whether SHR would move on from him as he’s solidly into the playoffs for the second straight year. I can see him coming back, but for FRM, it’s worth the call.
This is a bit out of left field, but why not? FRM isn’t switching manufacturers so they’ll be Ford based again in 2020. Custer, is under contract with SHR who also drives Ford’s. If all four current drivers return to SHR for 2020, maybe they look elsewhere to house Custer for the time being.
He’s made 92 starts in the XFINITY Series and is only getting better and better. He’s won five times already this year alone and is a championship contender. Why come back to the series for a fourth year when he’s primed and ready for Cup?
Maybe an alliance with SHR will be better for FRM than Roush.
Same as above here. Notice a theme? SHR drivers. Briscoe, has won twice in both Trucks and NXS competition and is getting stronger and stronger as the season has gone on. Briscoe, would be deserving of a ride if it comes available.
RCR says Reddick will be a Cup star one day. The problem is, they may not have the resources to add the third car back next year and Reddick says he’s going to Cup next year with someone no matter what. Without many rides available, this could be an option for him.
If the watermelon man wants a stable Cup ride, maybe he goes to FRM and tries to use that to go to another team later. The talent is there, but would he want to go to them?
