NEWTON, IA – 2018 Indy Pro 2000 Champion and current Indy Lights driver, Rinus VeeKay will participate in his first NTT IndyCar Series test with Ed Carpenter Racing (ECR) in the No. 20 Chevrolet-powered IR-18 at Portland International Raceway on August 7th.
“We are excited to test Rinus at Portland on August 7th,” said Team Owner and Driver, Ed Carpenter. “The Indy Lights series has produced high-level talent, and ECR has always looked at drivers coming out of that series. Rinus had a very strong season up to this point, and we are excited to evaluate him at this upcoming test.”
The summer test marks the 18-year-old’s first experience behind the wheel of a 2.2-liter, twin-turbocharged V6 Indy car, just two years after making his debut on the Road To Indy, the official development ladder system of INDYCAR. This season, VeeKay is competing in Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires, thanks to the Mazda Motorsports scholarship after winning the 2018 Indy Pro 2000 Championship. VeeKay’s 13 wins and 29 podium finishes on the Road To Indy along with his dominant Indy Pro Championship season last year and 2019 FIA Asian F3 Winter Series Championship make the young Dutchman one of the most successful drivers in junior open-wheel racing.
